Donations allow continued deployment of journalists to gather facts and present multiple perspectives without paywalls. Royal Mail has paused accepting parcels to the United States in response to a US decision to end the de minimis customs exemption for low-value packages. Packages valued at or under $800 will face duties; commercial shippers must pay tariffs equivalent to other goods. UK-made items face a 10% tariff and EU items 15%. Gifts under $100 and ordinary cards and letters remain exempt.
Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
Royal Mail has temporarily suspended accepting parcels to the United States after Donald Trump's administration decided to scrap a customs tax rule that allowed low-value packages to enter duty-free. The president said last month that packages valued at or under $800 (600) sent to the US would face applicable duties from this Friday, ending a loophole known as the de minimus exemption. It means commercial shippers of low-value items will have to pay the same tariff rate as for other goods from the same country of origin.
