A report by Senator Bernie Sanders highlights the detrimental effects of proposed cuts to Social Security by Elon Musk and Donald Trump. The report indicates that current Right-wing adjustments have already resulted in a significant rise in the number of deaths while awaiting benefit approvals, with figures suggesting that nearly 30,000 people die each year due to delays. Should Musk and Trump's plans come to fruition, wait times could surpass 412 days, leading to an estimated 67,000 additional deaths. Sanders advocates for strengthening Social Security rather than further eroding its framework to aid seniors and those with disabilities.
Right-wing cuts to Social Security have already caused an erosion in services over the past decades... the number of people who die during the wait time for benefit determinations has risen drastically, to 30,000 people.
If 'shadow president' Musk and President Donald Trump's plans to cut the Social Security Administration by up to half are fully realized, the wait time could more than double to 412 days - resulting in nearly 67,000 people dying this year alone while waiting for an initial decision on their eligibility for benefits.
Instead of slashing Social Security's staff, closing down Social Security field offices, we should be making it easier, not harder, for seniors and people with disabilities to receive the Social Security benefits that they have earned and deserve.
