Amid cuts to the federal workforce by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), some Republicans are pushing back against indiscriminate reductions that they believe harm their states. They stress their support for government efficiency but argue that the current pace and scope of cuts, especially in critical services like law enforcement and national parks, are detrimental. Notable Republican senators have made public statements indicating concern over the impact of these cuts on local communities and the morale of civil servants, emphasizing a need for a more thoughtful approach to federal workforce management.
I am all for efficiency and ultimately downsizing the federal government, but firing large numbers of new FBI agents is not the way to achieve this.
This approach is bringing confusion, anxiety, and now trauma to our civil servants. Indiscriminate workforce cuts aren't efficient and won't fix the federal budget.
