In a recent episode of The View, Sunny Hostin discussed a controversial SNL sketch featuring Tom Hanks portraying a Trump supporter named Doug, criticized by conservatives for its implications about race. Hostin argued that the sketch cleverly comments on the intersection of Black culture and American culture. She connected the handshake moment in the sketch to Republican Senator Deb Fischer's husband's refusal to shake hands with Vice President Kamala Harris, deeming it a subversive commentary on societal attitudes towards race and identity in America.
I think it's a very subversive sketch, Hostin said. In fact, it's about Black culture being American culture. And so, when you have the regular Jeopardy, you know, it's basically the White Jeopardy that already exists because I've been on it and lost.
The fact that he refused to shake the host's hand, that has happened before. Do you remember when the senator's husband that was being [sworn in] refused to shake [Harris's] hand; so I felt that it was very subversive.
