Democrats flipped the Virginia governor's mansion and added 13 seats to the state's House of Delegates, maintained New Jersey's governorship, and held the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. California voters approved a measure allowing the state legislature to redraw congressional districts more favorably to Democrats after Texas enacted a similar initiative for Republicans. New York voters elected Zohran Mamdani, a democratic socialist who will be the city's first Muslim mayor. Sen. Ted Cruz called the election results a disaster, denounced Mamdani as a "full-on communist" and "communist jihadist," accused him of advocating seizing the means of production, and warned of dangerous consequences for New York.
