"This year has been a nightmare so far - I moved for a job to a country where the sun shines for 2 hours per day, only to get laid off the same year and develop a writer's block bigger than a politician's ego. But seeing bad examples of error messaging as UX Writing guidelines will beat any writer's block."
"So... Everyone can write a good error message Content Designers should never, ever gatekeep. We are not Medieval scribes, the only people who could read and write in society, who got paid to write down whatever was dictated to them. And you, dear stakeholder, you don't have to be a Content Designer to create text that won't make the user want to gouge their eyes out."
An individual relocated for a job to a country with little sunlight, was laid off, and developed severe writer's block. Encountering poor error messages provided motivation to write, suggesting that bad UX examples can be productive catalysts. Everyone can learn to write effective error messages; Content Designers must not gatekeep writing skills or knowledge. Stakeholders and non-UX writers can create text that does not frustrate users. Sharing writing recipes and teaching others how to add content value strengthens team outcomes and does not take work away from specialists. Content Design extends beyond composing individual strings and involves empowering colleagues to contribute effective content.
