The Metroidvania genre has started to feel a little played out of late. Animal Well eschews this paint-by-numbers design and brings back the sense of mystery inherent to the best games in the genre.
In 2024 we had something close to the opposite problem. While there were definitely a few standout titles, rounding out the list to a full 20 proved more challenging than it has in perhaps any other year.
