Assassin's Creed Shadows introduces players to two unique protagonists, the female ninja Naoe and the samurai Yasuke, each bringing their own strengths and narratives. Players can switch between the characters, but the game is designed so that favoring one over the other won't detract from the overall experience. Creative director Jonathan Dumont noted that while there are individual quests for each character, players will gain insight into their backstories through meditation sequences. Notably, the game has been censored in Japan to remove dismemberment, while expanding accessibility options for all players.
The core of the game can be pick your character and the game adapts.
There's going to be a couple of choices here and there [where players would] wonder what happened, what would happen with this character.
