Certain Nintendo Switch 2 Physical Games Are "Game-Key Cards" For Downloads

Nintendo has announced a new feature called Game-Key Cards for its Switch 2 console, allowing certain games to be accessed digitally via these cards rather than standard cartridges. These Game-Key Cards serve as keys, requiring an initial internet connection to download the game, but can be played offline afterward. However, the card must remain in the console for access. Designated by a white banner on game cases, the implications of transferring these cards or sharing them remain unclear.

Unlike a regular physical game cartridge, Game-Key Cards don't include game data but are instead a 'key' that can be used to download and later access a particular game.

The Game-Key Card will still need to be inserted into the Switch 2 console in order to access the digital game, even after downloading.
