Disney has begun enforcing a crackdown on password sharing for Disney+, emphasizing that accounts should only be used within the same household. Subscription holders can add an Extra Member for a fee of $7/month on Basic and $10/month on Premium. Previous shared access with friends outside the home will now incur additional costs.
As Disney cracks down on password sharing similar to Netflix, it becomes clear their intention is to strengthen revenue by ensuring accounts are used by immediate family only. This new policy encourages users to create separate accounts if they wish to share Disney+ with friends.
Users who will not have their accounts shared easily can now see prompts when traveling, indicating the need to validate their location, thus enforcing Disney's policy tighter. Those affected can mark themselves as 'Away From Home' to bypass these restrictions temporarily.
Disney's approach shows a significant shift in terms of family sharing arrangements, as they now explicitly state that only one Extra Member can be added per account. Subscribers who obtained Disney+ through a bundle or third-party offer are excluded from this additional feature.
