Hitman Maker Breaks Silence On Publishing One Of 2025's Worst Games
"We thought they had some great ideas and a great world in the background that they were building, and hopefully they'll get the opportunity to show more of that in the future. And we just wanted to help them distribute the game."
"It was a tough reception. It wasn't what they hoped for, and also what we didn't hope for at IOI Partners. They're working hard on turning that around to regain the trust of the gamers out there, and they have tons of potential and content they're working on. So hopefully they'll succeed with that in the future."
IO Interactive published MindsEye as its first external publishing deal, partnering with Build A Rocket Boy. Build A Rocket Boy shifted from developing a user-generated-content metaverse to releasing a smaller single-player shooter led by Leslie Benzies. MindsEye follows an ex-black ops operative with a brain implant, but the final product was confusing, poorly executed, and one of 2025's lowest-rated games with largely negative Steam feedback. IO Interactive framed the agreement as supportive and expressed hope for recovery. Build A Rocket Boy has announced post-launch layoffs and faced public conflict while promising fixes and additional content.
