Microsoft is rumored to be developing an Xbox-branded handheld gaming device, codenamed Project Kennan. With over 20 years in the console market and insights from its Surface division, the company is well-equipped to create an effective portable gaming solution. The success of the Nintendo Switch and Valve's Steam Deck indicates strong market demand for handheld devices. Xbox CEO Phil Spencer has emphasized focusing on player engagement over console sales; thus, this handheld could help Microsoft grow its user base by allowing cloud gaming and enhancing social features.
According to Windows Central's Jez Corden, the device - codenamed Project Kennan - will feature a design similar to existing handhelds like the ROG Ally or Lenovo Legion Go.
Spencer has been out there for years saying 'I don't want my team's focus on console sales. The primary outcome of all the work that we do is how many players we see, and how often they play.'
