Sony Killing Half-Baked PlayStation Stars Loyalty Program Less Than Three Years Later

Sony is ending its PlayStation Stars loyalty program, which aimed to reward players with points and collectibles. The program struggled with low engagement from PS4 and PS5 users and lacked integration into the console experience. Although new memberships will cease in May 2025 and all benefits will end by July 2025, existing collectibles will remain until the app becomes obsolete. Sony cites learnings from the program and will refocus efforts based on player response and industry trends moving forward.
PlayStation Stars was Sony's bizarre overhaul of its existing loyalty program aimed at rewarding players with not just points they could put toward purchases of digital games but also with collectibles they could display.
Since launching the program, we've learned a lot from evaluating the types of activities our players respond best to...we are always evolving with player and industry trends.
It's not a shock that Sony is pulling the plug. Almost no PlayStation 4 or PS5 players really seemed to use PlayStation Stars.
any collectibles PlayStation Stars members have earned will remain on their virtual shelves, at least until the app...eventually stops working on modern smartphones.
