Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone, the creator of Stardew Valley, prefers to continue adding updates to the game rather than developing a sequel. He believes that enhancing the existing game is easier than starting anew, as major systems are already established. Barone also mentioned his desire to diversify his portfolio by focusing on his upcoming game, Haunted Chocolatier, which he hopes to release within the next five years. While he hasn't ruled out Stardew Valley 2 in the future, his current priority remains on updating the original game and finalizing Haunted Chocolatier.
"It's so much easier to just add more stuff to Stardew Valley than to make a whole new game from scratch," said Barone.
"I might eventually make a Stardew Valley 2, to be honest," Barone said. First, though, he wants to switch things up.
"I hope so. That's the goal," Barone replied when asked if Haunted Chocolatier could come out in the next five years.
Barone focused on Haunted Chocolatier after spending so much time on Stardew Valley 1.6, making a sequel unlikely anytime soon.
