The Witcher 4 is being developed with a 'console-first' mindset, CDPR devs say
Briefly

CD Projekt RED is prioritizing console development for The Witcher 4, aiming to learn from the troubled launch of Cyberpunk 2077. The studio has transitioned from its proprietary REDengine to Epic Games' Unreal Engine 5, and has showcased gameplay on the PlayStation 5 at 60 frames per second with ray-tracing. CDPR's vice president of technology emphasized the shift towards console-first development to avoid previous pitfalls that led to numerous bugs and negative player feedback, particularly on older consoles during Cyberpunk's launch.
It's easier to scale up than down.
I think that when we started the collaboration [with Epic], we had super high ambition for this project, and we always do PC [first] and we push [the limits] and then we try to scale down [for console].
But then we had so many problems in the past that we tried to see, 'OK, this time around we really want to be more [of] a console-first development, right?'
The rocky road [of Cyberpunk 2077] is not a path CDPR devs want to tread again with The Witcher 4.
