Blizzard Entertainment is set to reintroduce loot boxes to Overwatch 2 in season 15, launching on February 18, following their removal over two years ago. The loot boxes will offer random cosmetics like skins and emotes, integrating with the battle pass system. Players can earn them through gameplay and additional methods, with assurances of transparency regarding drop rates. Notably, a duplicate-protection feature will ensure players avoid repetition of items. Game director Aaron Keller confirmed a wide availability of loot boxes, fueling anticipation among players for season 15.
"We're keeping it fun while being transparent about what's inside and the rate of various drops from opening each box," said Gavin Winter, senior systems designer on Overwatch 2.
"We checked," game director Aaron Keller told me. "No Overwatch 2 player owns every single cosmetic in the game."
