The Washington Capitals have adopted a pattern of slow starts this season, evidenced in their recent game against the Seattle Kraken. Despite being outshot in the opening period, the Capitals managed to turn the tide, securing a comeback win with Connor McMichael scoring the decisive goal. Alex Ovechkin's success in hitting the empty net brought him closer to NHL history, needing just nine more goals to surpass Wayne Gretzky's record. Goaltender Charlie Lindgren played a pivotal role with 30 saves, solidifying another strong performance for the team as they push through the remainder of the season.
“It's our second game when we have a slow start,” Ovechkin said, referring to Friday's comeback win over Detroit. “I think all four lines, kind of sleepy.”
Charlie Lindgren, who shut out the Kraken when the teams met in January in Seattle, made 30 saves for Washington (42-14-8).
Less than three minutes after McMichael's winner, Alex Ovechkin hit the empty net for his 886th goal, putting him within single digits of breaking Wayne Gretzky's record.
Washington needed a goal from Connor McMichael late in the third to pull off yet another comeback win, 4-2.
