The Washington Capitals held a special tribute for Marc-André Fleury following their final regular-season game against the Minnesota Wild, honoring the veteran goaltender who is set to retire at the end of the 2024-25 season. Captain Alex Ovechkin led the team in a postgame handshake line to pay respects to Fleury. Ovechkin, who has faced Fleury for two decades, emphasized the importance of recognizing Fleury's significant contributions to the sport. Teammate Charlie Lindgren, inspired by Fleury's career, seized the opportunity to express his admiration for the legendary goalie in their last encounter.
We wanted to do that. O had mentioned that this game being the last time going up against Marc-André and paying the respects he deserves on the impressive career.
Obviously one heck of a career. He was definitely one of my favorite goalies growing up. The way he competed, the way he battled, just his personality.
