The Washington Capitals have re-assigned defenseman Leon Muggli to their AHL affiliate, the Hershey Bears, to help with their playoff push. Muggli, who was drafted in the second round of the 2024 NHL Draft, recently completed a successful second season in the Swiss National League, where he tallied 11 points. The move comes amid the Bears’ struggle with defensive depth due to injuries. Muggli's experience as an alternate captain at the World Juniors also showcases his leadership and potential in the face of challenges ahead.
Muggli, 18, recorded 11 points in 40 games with EV Zug in the Swiss National League and is now re-assigned to the AHL's Hershey Bears.
Muggli became the first defenseman age 17 or younger in league history to record 12 points during his draft season, showcasing his exceptional talent.
The Bears are bringing in Muggli to bolster their defensive depth as they prepare for the playoff stretch, following injuries to key players.
Muggli will still be eligible to compete in his third World Juniors next year after serving as an alternate captain for Switzerland.
