The Overwatch team at Activision Blizzard has successfully unionized under the Communications Workers of America (CWA), gaining recognition from Microsoft. This union, comprising nearly 200 developers, marks a significant step in the broader initiative among video game workers striving for improved job protections and work conditions. This movement follows the establishment of a union by the World of Warcraft team last summer and the unionization of Activision's quality assurance workers. Union representatives emphasized the importance of collaboration with leadership to foster sustainable work environments.
"A neutral arbitrator confirmed today that an overwhelming majority of workers have either signed a union authorization card or indicated that they wanted union representation via an online portal."
"Unionizing is about having a seat at the table so that we can work with leadership to build better, more sustainable working conditions," said Jess Castillo, senior test analyst II and organizing committee member.
