Each spring, millions visit Washington D.C. to enjoy the iconic cherry blossom trees. However, many tourists, while enjoying the scenic beauty at the Tidal Basin, are oblivious to the legal restrictions against picking flowers or climbing branches. Recent interactions reveal a range of understanding among visitors about these rules. While some expressed uncertainty regarding the legality, others displayed concern over sustainability and the preservation of these cherished trees, highlighting the balance between enjoyment and conservation as essential during the annual bloom.
"I don't know, but I already picked a couple of flowers, so I hope it's not," said a young boy from Frederick, Maryland, as he stood with his family amid the trees.
"If there's a limited amount, I guess it would be illegal," said a man named Phillip of Staten Island, New York. "But I mean, it's really fine if you're just taking a couple leaves or so."
