Not Even DOGE Employees Know Who's Legally Running DOGE
Briefly

The US Digital Service (USDS) is experiencing upheaval following significant leadership changes and mass layoffs. After the resignation of Ted Carstensen, employees report a lack of clarity regarding the agency's leadership. While Steve Davis, a close associate of Elon Musk, is viewed by some as leading the agency, there is ongoing confusion about his exact role. This turmoil was further exacerbated by recent layoffs affecting around 25% of USDS staff, with many personnel reporting sudden firings without prior notice, highlighting the disarray within the organization.
'After Ted resigned, we received no correspondence as far as who the head of this organization was,' says a current USDS employee, who requested anonymity due to concerns of retaliation.
'Steve Davis has always been articulated as the leader of DOGE, but when I ask if he's the administrator, [managers] say we don't know,' one former USDS employee tells WIRED.
'No rhyme or reason. Literally in the middle of work,' another source said of the Friday night firings.
'I have heard that our directors at USDS (legacy) still have not received any kind of status from higher-ups about the direction of the organization.'
