Seventeen states filed a lawsuit against President Trump's administration for stopping over $3 billion allocated for electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, as per the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The lawsuit, led by attorneys general from California, Colorado, and Washington, asserts that the Federal Highway Administration overstepped its authority. The EV charging program, critical for advancing the electric vehicle market, was intended to build necessary infrastructure. Trump's decision is deemed short-sighted by officials, given the growing market for EVs which constituted 8% of new car sales last year.
These funds were going to be used to shape the future of transportation, and it's short-sighted for Trump to revoke the funds, says California AG Rob Bonta.
We won't sit back while the Trump administration violates the law, indicates Bonta, emphasizing the lawsuit's challenge to the withholding of EV charger funds.
