States sue Trump administration over mass firings of federal employees
Briefly

Attorneys general from Washington D.C., Maryland, and 18 other states have filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration for allegedly violating federal law during mass firings of probationary employees. They claim that over 20 federal agencies misrepresented the reason for these firings, falsely attributing them to employee performance rather than a reduction in force. The lawsuit highlights the economic disruption these layoffs can cause and seeks to halt the firings while requesting reinstatement for terminated workers. A court hearing is scheduled for March 12.
The Democratic attorneys general argue that federal agencies falsely told probationary employees through termination letters that they were being fired because of their performance.
Under federal law, states are required to have rapid response teams to provide fired workers with job transition services to reduce reliance on public assistance.
