The Washington Nationals achieved a significant victory before returning home from a 10-day west coast trip, needing a winning streak to boost their season. The team faces rain threats as they prepare for a day/night doubleheader against Detroit. Trevor Williams will start, while Paul DeJong was activated and Andres Chaparro was sent to Triple-A. Kyle Finnegan's performance included 50 pitches over three innings. James Wood leads the team in WAR, while defensive concerns persist with low OAA ratings from various players, indicating struggles in the middle infield.
Finnegan, he looked like a starter out there today. The boys battled, and they played really hard. I loved the energy, especially late in the game.
Here are your Nats' WAR leaders with James Wood at +3.5 and MacKenzie Gore at +2.8 followed by CJ Abrams at +2.7. Add those up, and you get a total of +9.0 WAR.
One of the newest Nats, Daylen Lile, is already at a -5.0 OAA and that is unsustainable as that is one of the worst marks in baseball if you extrapolated it for a full-season.
Luis Garcia Jr. has slumped this season defensively to a -7.0 already - and with CJ Abrams, they combine for -13.0 OAA. That is the worst middle infield in baseball and entirely unacceptable.
