Following a controversial incident at the race, George Russell accused Max Verstappen of deliberately crashing into him during the final moments. Russell expressed concern over the influence of such actions on young aspiring Formula 1 drivers, stating that deliberate collisions should not occur in the sport. While he acknowledged Verstappen's skill, Russell deemed these maneuvers unnecessary and problematic. Verstappen, when addressed about Russell's comments, retorted with sarcasm, implying the drama was exaggerated.
"It felt very deliberate, to be honest," Russell said after the race. "It's something that I've seen numerous times in sim racing... Never have I seen it in a Formula 1 race."
"It's a bit of a shame because Max is clearly one of the best drivers in the world. But manoeuvres like that are just totally unnecessary and sort of lets him down."
