Colin Poche, struggling with a 15.00 ERA, reflects on the pressure from fans and how to cope with it. He, along with teammates in the Washington Nationals bullpen, faces the challenge of managing their poor performance amid heckling, while knowing that it's only April and there's still a long season ahead. Manager Dave Martinez has held meetings to address the struggles. Poche acknowledges the frustration of poor statistics but emphasizes the need to focus on improvement and not let outside noise impact their performance.
You hear all kinds of things. You learn to, you hear it but you don't process it. ... A couple people yell your ERA at you and stuff like that, which is a lot more fun when it's a good number.
All that outside noise is definitely important, but it's not going to help me get the job done. Where I'm at right now, I might just close my eyes for a couple months and see where I'm at.
It's frustrating because, as a competitor, you want to go out there and, obviously, do well. But it's knowing that we're, what are we? 15 percent into the season? There's a lot of ball, and I know I have a lot of better pitching to come.
