Otto - Robotic choreographies
Briefly

Gentle Systems' latest project showcases a creative collaboration of engineers, designers, and coders who use KUKA robots to manipulate soap bubbles. Drawing inspiration from Frei Otto's work, the robots choreographed using Maya and custom tools to maintain surface tension and humidity. The team developed innovative end effectors and a unique soap formula. The outcome includes three choreographies, demonstrating the delicate balance between control and spontaneity in creating beautiful bubble formations, with challenges like precision in motions for effects like creating voids in soap surfaces.
It was a constant push and pull between controlling the material and letting it do what it wanted.
...suited the process, which ultimately asked for a constant push and pull between controlling the material and letting it do what it wanted.
The end result are 3 choreographies, one where two soap surfaces are transformed into a single large floating bubble.
This sequence demanded precise motion control and synchrony to create this effect-a void in a soap surface.
