Vukosi Marivate, a data scientist from South Africa, is committed to increasing diversity in AI and science. Inspired by his experiences in the US, he co-founded the Deep Learning Indaba conference and Masakhane, a community aimed at enhancing research in natural language processing for African languages. Marivate advocates for inclusive spaces in science, ensuring African voices are integral to the AI revolution. His efforts have notably increased participation from African researchers, reflected in the attendance at the Indaba conference and the diverse projects launched through Masakhane.
