Number of women who are state lawmakers inches up to a record
Briefly

Women will for the first time make up a majority of state legislators in Colorado and New Mexico in 2025; however, losses in female representation occurred in at least 13 states.
While 19 states saw growth in the number of women in their legislatures, overall representation remains only a little more than a third of the seats nationwide.
The overall uptick in women's representation is slight, with only 33.2% of state legislative seats held by women, compared to 2,431 in the previous record.
Although the number of Republican women elected to state legislatures has broken records, they still remain underrepresented when compared to their Democratic counterparts.
