A new study reveals that open-source AI models are biased towards recommending men over women for job positions. This bias, particularly pronounced in high-paying roles, highlights ongoing issues in AI usage within recruitment. Researchers analyzed multiple models against a large dataset of job ads, finding that these systems often perpetuate gender stereotypes. The study emphasizes the need for transparency regarding companies' AI model usage to ensure compliance with emerging regulations targeting AI bias.
We find that most models reproduce stereotypical gender associations and systematically recommend equally qualified women for lower-wage roles.
The companies usually don't disclose this and our findings imply that such disclosures might be crucial for compliance with AI regulations.
