Stuff I learned at Carta.
Briefly

As I conclude my tenure as CTO at Carta, I'm reflecting on the invaluable lessons learned over the past two years. I've realized the importance of engaging deeply with details as a leader, rather than operating in high-level abstractions. Carta's focus on leaders delving into specifics has significantly shaped my approach. Moreover, my journey of refining engineering strategy, documented in an upcoming book, has benefited from the complex projects and collaborations with talented colleagues at Carta. Lastly, I've learned that rather than blaming executives for lack of clarity, it’s necessary to take initiative in understanding communication.
Working in the details is crucial for success. Leaders must go deep into information to be informed and drive progress, avoiding excessive abstraction.
Over 18 months, I’ve refined my engineering strategy approach and am excited to share my insights through my upcoming book, informed by real projects at Carta.
Understanding executives has historically been a challenge within teams. Instead of blaming executives for communication issues, it's vital to take responsibility for understanding.
