Ellen van Dijk of Lidl-Trek clinched victory in the time trial stage 1a of the Vuelta a Extremadura Femenina, completing the 9km course in 11:20. She secured her first win of the year and took the leader's jersey. Strong competitors Mie Bjørndal Ottestad and Katrine Aalerud followed, finishing second and third. Van Dijk, a former TT world champion, expressed her joy at competing during the event and highlighted the personal significance of racing with her coach present. The stage was part of a split day, with a subsequent 90km road race scheduled for later.
"I'm super happy with it. I really love to race here and I'm super happy that you guys put a time trial in here," she said at the finish.
"For me it's also special, my coach Josu Larrazabal lives in Madrid, so he's also here and we could do the time trial together, so that makes it extra special."
