A survey by recruitment firm Lorien reveals that maintaining work-life balance is the principal challenge for women in the technology sector, with 45% reporting difficulties in this area. Other significant issues include gender bias, with nearly 30% citing it as a major roadblock. Despite a slow increase in women's representation in tech, reaching only 20% by 2022, many women find the work environment supportive. However, only 25% believe they have equal career advancement opportunities compared to men, underscoring the need for a more inclusive culture in tech workplaces.
Recruitment firm Lorien surveyed women in the technology sector and found 45% claimed to have had difficulties with work-life balance in their role, making it the biggest barrier they have faced in their career.
While the proportion of women in technology is steadily increasing, we can't afford to become complacent, said Darren Topping, director of enterprise solutions, insights and partnerships for Lorien's parent company Impellam Group.
Creating a truly inclusive workplace means recognising that work-life balance is not a luxury, but a necessity.
75% of women in the technology sector believe their current work environment is inclusive and offers them support. But when it comes to career development, only a quarter think they have the same career advancement opportunities as their male counterparts.
