Americans freed in Afghanistan-U.S. prisoner swap, Taliban says
Briefly

A significant prisoner swap occurred between the United States and the Taliban, resulting in the release of an unknown number of Americans, including Ryan Corbett. Corbett's family expressed immense joy at his return after two years of uncertainty. The Taliban now has a prisoner, Khan Mohammed, captured nearly two decades ago in Nangahar. Mohammed’s criminal history includes narcotics distribution and ties to Taliban operations. The Justice Department noted he was involved in a plot to attack U.S. military forces. The State Department has yet to comment on the release.
The family of Ryan Corbett, a New Yorker who was detained in Afghanistan over two years ago, confirmed his release in a statement Tuesday: "We are overwhelmed with joy that Ryan is on his way home."
The Taliban's Foreign Ministry did not name or specify the number of the Americans released in the deal but said in a statement on X that the prisoner exchange took place after "extensive & productive negotiations."
