"At least 23 people have been killed in a fire at a popular nightclub in the Indian resort city of Goa, according to chief minister Pramod Sawant and media reports. Several tourists were among the dead in the fire, which broke out at about midnight on Sunday at a club in Arpora in the North Goa district, the Press Trust of India reported, citing officials."
"Today is a very painful day for all of us in Goa. A major fire incident at Arpora has taken the lives of 23 people, Sawant wrote on X. I visited the incident site and have ordered an inquiry into this incident, he said. Those found responsible will face most stringent action under the law any negligence will be dealt with firmly."

Three people died from burn injuries and the others died from suffocation. Rescue personnel rushed several people into emergency vehicles as balls of fire and thick smoke rose from the low-rise building. Sawant visited the scene and ordered an inquiry, promising the most stringent legal action against those found responsible and firm measures for any negligence. Goa continues to attract millions of tourists with its nightlife, beaches and coastal atmosphere.
