Piotr Szczerek posted an apology on social media after video of an incident in which he grabbed a boy's hat went viral. The broadcast showed Mr Szczerek taking the hat following Szymon Majchrzak's singles match against Karen Khachanov. Mr Szczerek said on Facebook that he made a mistake, believing Majchrzak was giving the hat to his sons who had asked earlier for an autograph, and that he had apologised personally. Majchrzak reached out to the boy's family, met the boy, gave him a new hat and posed for photos. Majchrzak, also from Poland, retired from his match because of an undisclosed injury.
