Chelsea are investigating after a bottle was thrown towards the Aston Villa bench following their 2-1 Premier League defeat at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. After the full-time whistle, an open plastic bottle was directed at Villa's celebrating bench, splashing staff and players with a liquid that appeared to be water. One member of staff pointed towards the area from which the bottle came, which seemed to be a section containing both Chelsea fans and staff. It remains unclear who was responsible.
A man has been charged with racially abusing the Bournemouth footballer Antoine Semenyo during a match at Anfield. The incident is alleged to have happened at the Liverpool v Bournemouth Premier League fixture on 15 August, Merseyside police said. Mark Mogan, 47, of Templehill Close, Dovecot, has been charged with a racially aggravated section 5 public order offence against the forward. Merseyside police said in a statement: We can confirm that a Liverpool man has been charged in connection with an incident during a Liverpool FC match at Anfield in August. Mogan has been conditionally bailed and will appear at Liverpool magistrates court on 22 December.

TAMPERE, Finland -- Germany captain Dennis Schroder faced racial abuse during his team's 107-88 victory over Lithuania at EuroBasket on Saturday. The German Basketball Association said two people were identified as the alleged perpetrators of the abuse and they were subsequently ejected from the arena in Tampere, Finland. "You can insult me but monkey noises are something I don't respect or accept. Racism has no place in this sport," Schroder said. The Germany captain, who is Black, heard the noises while walking to the locker room, news agency dpa reported.
