"Preparations are underway to ensure the event reflects the scale and significance of this historic moment,"
"The opening will be marked by international attendance and special cultural activations, celebrating Egypt's timeless heritage on a global stage."
"I was upset about the old museum losing some of its collection, but I am now totally converted. You need a space befitting of the 21st century that addresses this great civilisation of 3,000 years in one structure. To have that under one roof is amazing."
The Grand Egyptian Museum opens on 1 November, completing a project initiated over 30 years ago and unveiling the Tutankhamun Gallery as its centerpiece. Preparations aim to reflect the event's scale and significance, with international attendance and cultural activations planned. Parts of the museum have been accessible since October last year, and contemporary programming has run for two years, offering exhibitions, concerts, talks, food festivals, family events and public engagement activities such as puzzles, games and treasure hunts. Conservation labs have operated since 2010, restoring millennia-old objects, processing newly discovered artefacts from ongoing digs, and providing hi-tech assistance to other Egyptian museums.
