Andriy Yermak and Rustem Umerov will meet US government representatives in New York to negotiate security guarantees for Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire. Zelenskyy said military, political, and economic components will be involved, and emphasized urgency to make guarantees a lever of influence deterring further Russian aggression. Zelenskyy accused Russia of unwillingness to negotiate and breaking promises to former US President Donald Trump. Ukraine seeks concrete guarantees against future Russian attacks. The United Kingdom and France pledged non-NATO peacekeeping troop deployments, while the United States signaled support with air power and military intelligence. Vladimir Putin rejected NATO troop deployment proposals.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's chief negotiators, Chief-of-Staff Andriy Yermak and former Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, will meet US government representatives in New York on Friday for further talks on security guarantees for Ukraine in the case of an eventual ceasefire with Russia. Zelenskyy announced the trip in his evening video address on Wednesday night and the scheduled meeting was confirmed by US special envoy Steve Witkoff.
"Everyone working on the substance of the security guarantees will be involved: the military, political, and economic component," Zelenskyy said. "The task is to move as fast as possible, so that this too becomes a lever, a lever of influence. The Russians must see the seriousness of the world's resolve and how severe the consequences will be for Russia if the war continues," he added.
