A farewell to theater critic Misha Berson * Oregon ArtsWatch
Briefly

Misha Berson, a prominent theater critic and author, died unexpectedly from a possible heart attack at her home in Seattle on February 13. She had a robust career spanning decades, beginning in San Francisco before becoming a theater critic for The Seattle Times for 25 years. A well-respected figure in arts journalism, Berson contributed to various outlets, including Oregon ArtsWatch. Her impactful writing and insights marked her as a significant voice in the theater community, culminating in her recognition on the Pulitzer Prize jury.
Berson, who in recent years has written frequently for Oregon ArtsWatch, began her arts journalism career in San Francisco, where she spent a dozen years as theater critic for the San Francisco Bay Guardian after spending time as executive director of Theatre Bay Area and as performing arts director of the Fort Mason Center.
Although the cause of her demise is not known with certainty, it appears to have been a sudden and major heart attack, Schiavo wrote on Facebook in announcing her death.
A longtime San Franciscan and a Seattle newbie, I had a confusing city map but no GPS, cellphone or brightly lit marquee to guide me. On the darkened Seattle Center grounds, I finally found Seattle Repertory Theatre and dashed in to review Pirandello's Six Characters in Search of an Author - by, yes, the skin of my teeth.
So began a job that lasted longer, and was more fulfilling, dynamic and central to my existence, than I'd ever anticipated.
