Before starting filming on Janet Planet, Annie Baker and her sound designer, Paul Hsu, recorded two weeks of ambient noises in Western Massachusetts to create the film's soundtrack.
Baker and Hsu placed recording equipment in trees at filming locations, capturing sounds like a bumblebee tumbling around a microphone to create a unique soundscape for the movie.
