Its subject matter is realistically intense enough that I wouldn't recommend it for everyone, but it's a deft piece of writing that absolutely nails the perfect tone for its plot: neither sappy nor sadistic, neither brutally depressing nor uncannily effervescent.
McAdams gives a revelatory performance in 'Mary Jane,' escaping cliches, blending pieces of her character's past into her present portrayal seamlessly, showing her depth and skill as an actress.
