Review: 'Some Like It Hot' doesn't know what kind of show it wants to be
Briefly

In the musical's biggest departure, Jerry as Daphne realizes, "Daphne is the best part of me." What started as a lifesaving disguise becomes a permanent identity.
"Some Like It Hot" seeks to trumpet the delights of the original while finding contemporary analogs for its gender humor, all while providing jazzy throwback numbers.
It's a lovely sentiment in Matthew López and Amber Ruffin's book, and the opening night crowd cheered along with each of Daphne's affirmations.
The overall effect is of a musical uneasily straddling revamp and novelty, creating a world that’s a mix of Depression-era realities and untouched fantasies.
