"an extraordinary space, a place of connections for the world and of the world"
"demonstrated an exceptional and materially sensitive architectural vision"
"clearly understood the ambition for this project to be as much an intellectual transformation as an architectural one"
Lina Ghotmeh will oversee the remodelling of the British Museum's Western Range in collaboration with conservation specialists Purcell and engineers Arup. The project aims to convert one-third of the museum into a space that connects global histories while respecting material and archaeological layers. Ghotmeh developed an "archaeology of the future" methodology after studying at the American University of Beirut and the École Spéciale d'Architecture and teaching at ESA. Her past work includes co-founding DGT Architects and delivering the National Museum in Tartu (2006–16) and Beirut's Stone Garden tower (completed 2020). The design emphasizes human-centred, materially sensitive transformation.
