Nick Volkov and Jenna Phipps purchased a dilapidated house in Vancouver, initially feeling they made a mistake after discovering its poor condition. A real estate waiver preceded their purchase. Despite concerns, they committed to renovating the $1.5 million home, sharing their journey online. They uncovered severe issues like mold, water damage, and roof replacement needs, stemming from the house's long neglect by its previous owner. Their story encapsulates a blend of fear, frustration, and dedication as they revitalized their home.
So one year ago we took possession of our abandoned home, and I didn't tell you guys this but I was scared s------s. I might have made the biggest mistake of my life.
Despite its decaying stature, Volkov and Phipps decided to take the leap and splashed out $1.5 million on the home, knowing they would have to completely tear down and renovate much of the property.
Within days of beginning work on the property, they encountered moldy floors, extreme water damage, and an insect issue-plus, they realized the entire roof needed to be replaced.
The couple learned that the home had been passed down several generations; however, the current owner no longer lived there and just visited from time to time, which is why it was in such a terrible state.
