Descartes School / Arpio Architects
Briefly

ARPIO Architects, in collaboration with Coco Architecture, won an international competition to redesign the Lycée Descartes in Rabat. Their innovative design incorporates a traditional house concept centered around a courtyard, enhancing energy efficiency and comfort. The project features three distinct volumes that accommodate various functions while promoting interaction through courtyards and sustainable features such as covered walkways and effective sun management. The careful alignment of building heights and the use of durable materials contribute to the aesthetic appeal and practicality of the school environment.
The building’s design focuses on managing natural elements like light and wind to promote energy efficiency, ultimately enhancing the comfort for students and teachers.
By breaking the mass of the teaching building with courtyards and terraces, the design ensures a visually appealing structure that integrates well within its urban context.
