Everything we know about plans to restore derelict 15th century pub to former glory
Briefly

The Old Spotted Dog pub in Upton Lane is undergoing planning applications for its restoration after being closed since 2004. Renovations aim to preserve its historic 15th to 19th century features, with proposals for a bar, dining area, and residential units. Newham Council is expected to review these applications in summer or autumn 2024. The pub’s past restoration attempts failed, leaving it squatted and vandalized, highlighting the urgency and importance of these proposed renovations to prevent further decay and to honor its historical significance.
The proposed development would demolish poor quality 20th century elements from the public house allowing the Tudor, and Victorian/Edwardian elements of the public house to be revealed.
According to a full planning document, the building has been squatted and vandalised on several occasions and the theft of metal from the roof has "severely exacerbated the damage".
