MASA Architects has completed the IEIE residence in Urayasu City, Japan, creatively merging residential and professional spaces for a couple who give piano lessons. The design incorporates varying house-shaped volumes that reflect an urban streetscape, influenced by changing natural light and spatial layering. This innovative design allows for seamless transitions between spaces, as seen in natural light filtering throughout the day, creating an atmosphere that fluctuates from morning to evening. Key architectural features, including a birdhouse-like bedroom and eaves resembling piano keys, enhance both playfulness and the connection to music education.
The project seamlessly integrates residential and professional spaces, offering an urban experience within a home where light and movement dictate the atmosphere.
Natural light plays a pivotal role in the design, transforming the space throughout the day and crafting a unique connection between the interior and exterior.
