Revealing the restoration of Richmond station
Briefly

Richmond station's restoration aims to revive its Art Deco heritage. Recent efforts have revealed unexpected survivors like a 1937 timber and green glass frieze. This historical element is being restored to showcase at night with low-energy lighting. Original bronze cladding has also been replaced. Despite the ongoing work, visitors can appreciate the juxtaposition of old and new elements. Additionally, a heritage display on the hoardings narrates the station's history. The project is led by Benedict O'Looney Architects, known for similar restoration works in the area, promising a return to the station’s former glory soon.
Although the entrance doors and front facade were cleaned a year ago, they've also been working on the station interior, bringing back some of the lost or hidden heritage.
One of the unexpected survivors was the 1937 timber and green glass frieze that ran around the inside of the station, advertising services and shops.
